New work: Target bunny in the sky with caterpillars

300 x 150 cm
oil and acrylic on canvas
2012

A large standing canvas of 3 meters high, in which a lot is happening. I used several elements that come from previous drawings and paintings, and put them together in one painting. Because of this the work is busy and eclectic as a whole. The fence, the seesaw, the car, the washing line and the house I used before in the painting Home. Other elements are derived from works I made in spring last year in Finland. The umbrella (Winterreise), the caterpillars (Caterpillar girl), the painting with birches and the string plants (The cabinet). The bunny is a small work on its own (Target bunny) and the upwards looking figures come directly from the drawings Great expectation and What’s to become.

This work is a recapitulation of the feeling I had when I just got back from Finland. A specific way of remembering, and the shaping of a visual language.

Girl on the beach

40 x 30 cm
oil on canvas
2012

A small canvas where I painted with water mixable oil paint for the first time. I switched to that because I went a little crazy of the smell of terpentine.
A girl with gigantic eyes, one a little bigger than the other, which makes her look a little lunatic. De straps over her shoulders suggest a swimsuit and the motive with several blues behind her suggest waves of the sea. No mouth and no nose, which makes her stare even more incomprehensible.
The use of primary colors red and blue gives the painting a cheerfull atmosphere, but her eyes tell us differently. Her glance, like in many of my paintings, is one with a mix of fright and astonishment.
